Since my last post I had been putting some thoughts into jump starting my weight-loss plan for 2012. I think I jumped into 2011 feeling so motivated, but by the time I took a step forward I caught a bad cold that lingered for a month. I had no energy, had on and off coughing fits, and in general felt like such crap. I had so many plans for “weight loss 2011”. I was going to join a gym, start tracking my calorie intake on Sparkpeople, even do a couch-to-5K program.
But that stupid cold! It took so much out of me and by the time I got over the cold I had lost all my motivation.
“Weight loss 2012” seems to be mirroring “weight loss 2011”. Yes, I have a freaking cold! again!! I really had hoped I just had a slight post-nasal cough with no other symptoms. I had been coughing since Christmas. Last week my coughing was easing up and I thought I was on the mend. No. This week has been a runny nose and even more coughing. I just can’t win.
I go through about a small bag of cough drops a day. About a box of sudafed a week. I start my day thinking I am slowly on the mend. In the evening I just want to crawl into bed and sleep. I haven’t joined a gym yet because of this cold. I haven’t started to eat better because I haven’t joined a gym. So much deja vu.
I need to break this cycle and get moving in the right direction, even if it means putting of joining a gym until I kicked this cold. In effort to do that I had been doing some juicing (although only on days I am in the office, its my cheap and easy breakfast), and sadly yo-yo dieting (ie, only 2 meals a day). This yo-yo cycle has been playing with my body image. I feel like crap, so I try to tell myself I am not hungry, so I skip a meal, but when I do eat I eat too much but try and convince myself that its ok since I hadn’t really eaten all day. I know this is wrong, but I still do it, and almost daily.
Juice was one thing I looked into to help my metabolism and jump start healthy eating. The macro-nutrients found in fresh fruits and veggies are supposed to cleanse all the toxins from over-processed foods as well as fueling your cells. From the little juicing that I have done I have to say a 30oz juice is quite filling, even if it took 4 apples, 2 oranges, and a cup of grapes. (More on juicing in another post).
I then thought about ways I could boost my metabolism or even any efforts I made to eat healthy and workout. That is when I stumbled upon acupuncture. At first I wasn’t sure if it would work to help lose weight. I was wrong. Acupuncture can be used as an aide for weight loss and help boost your metabolism, among other things.
I dug a little more and discovered that the science behind using acupuncture for weight loss is balancing and regulating hormones that trigger hunger/cravings, balance your moods that influence emotional eating, relieve anxiety, improve digestion, and improve your mood which keeps you motivated to sick to your diet plan. After the research that I did, well, I figured it can’t hurt to try it out. So far from what I read about 10 treatments are needed to see a difference.
Well, I made an appointment to try out an acupuncture session. I hate needles and I want to see how well I handle a session before I work up a plan for additional sessions. But overall I am kinda excited about going to my session, which is on Saturday AND located very close to my house.
